The poster So2Sat POP - A Curated Benchmark Dataset for Population Estimation from Space on a Continental Scale, presented by Sugandha Doda, received the Best Poster Award at the Helmholtz AI Conference 2022!
Obtaining a dynamic population distribution is key to many decision-making processes such as urban planning, disaster management and most importantly helping the government to better allocate sociotechnical supply. For the aspiration of these objectives, good population data is essential. In a view of this, the So2Sat POP data set was prepared. It provides a comprehensive benchmark data set for population estimation in 98 European cities, and it consists of digital elevation model, local climate zone, land use classifications, nighttime lights in combination with multi-spectral Sentinel-2 imagery, and data from the Open Street Map initiative.
