Welcome to the Chair of Aircraft Design at the Technical University of Munich
The Chair of Aircraft Design is dealing with the aircraft in its entirety and its integration within the civil and/or military aerospace. The focus of research and teaching is on the derivation and analysis of boundary conditions of the aerospace sector, aircraft design for civil and military uses as well as their evaluation according to the requirements and boundary conditions. The lessons are mainly dedicated to the students with focus on aerospace engineering.
Research
The focus in research is placed on aircraft design for civil and military operations as well as the derivation of future requirements, trends and technologies through the use of scenario techniques. The analysis and evaluation of the aircraft designs and the respective technologies is done through analytical and experimental analysis in the areas flight/mission performance, noise and emissions, airport capacity as well as economic evaluation. For the demonstration of system capabilities and technologies the institute relies on the design, manufacture and use of ground test setups as well as flying demonstrators.
Teaching
Aerospace Engineering provides a basic overall understanding of the interactions and phenomena in the aircraft design and its operation in the context of the overall air transport system. Of special focus are the interactions between the basic disciplines of aerodynamics, structures, propulsion and systems in the complex overall system, which are shown through examples of civil and military applications.
