In the STORT project of the German Aerospace Center (DLR), a sounding research rocket was launched equipped with a CFRP module with structural integrated fiber Bragg grating sensors, that was manufactured by Vincent Backmann supported by Jan Teltschik at the Chair of Carbon Composites (Technical University of Munich). Based on the Copras concept, the module was produced with the automated fiber placement process with in-situ consolidation. In that, tape laying and consolidation are performed in one step. Further energy and time intensive processes in ovens or autoclaves are not necessary. The chair has been researching this process for more than 10 years in numerous topics in basic research and for technology demonstration.
Many thanks to DLR (Institute of Structures and Design) for making this possible, the trust and the cooperation.
