In collaboration with student group “Impetus Sailing”, the LCC organised a project seminar this semester. The topic was the boom for the boat that will compete in the “1001 Vela Cup 2024”. From concept studies, design, layout, production of components and testing of sub-segments through to assembly, the students successfully integrated the boom into the boat.
The boom was braided from several preforms and infiltrated with a reactive thermoplastic. The individual parts were joined to form the boom using a combination of gluing and wrapping.
The project seminar concept enables TUM to support student groups in cooperation with departments. Learning success is significantly increased through topics to which the students have a direct connection. In addition, it is always fun to organise such an event with motivated students.
