The Austrian research project Polymers4Hydrogen will come to a successful end in 2024. The project focused on the development of polymer materials and sealing solutions for high-pressure use in hydrogen in order to strengthen the scientific foundation for future applications of hydrogen technology.
At the Chair of Carbon Composites, in particular the development of conformable hydrogen pressure vessels was progressed to optimize the integration of future tank systems into existing vehicle installation spaces. In the final phase, the research results were summarized and demonstrated by means of two installation space-adapted technology carriers. These were subjected to hydrostatic burst tests at Faurecia in Bavans. Despite leakage before burst, one of the demonstrators reached 80% of the design pressure of 100 bar without structural failure.
At the final project meeting on December 1, the research results were presented and discussed, and there was also an opportunity to visit Faurecia's research and development center in Bavans. This gave the participants an in-depth insight into Faurecia's innovation work and rounded off the successful technical presentations.
