The kick-off meeting for the project ADAPT-H2-Tanks took place on May 17, 2024. The project with the title “Adaptive Design for Advanced Performance of Type 4 H2 Tanks” is funded within the IraSME network by the German Central Innovation Programme for small and medium-sized enterprises ZIM and the Scientific and Technological Research Institution of Türkiye TÜBITAK and is carried out in cooperation with the industrial Floteks Plastik Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. (Türkiye) and Mefex GmbH (Germany).
The aim of the project is to develop type IV hydrogen tanks with a geometry that is adapted to the cuboid installation spaces available in vehicles and thus deviates from the conventional cylindrical shape. This innovative approach offers great potential for the volume-efficient storage of hydrogen, but also poses a number of challenges. The project will focus on the topics of liner production (Floteks), winding paths (Mefex) and composite process technology (TUM) for conformable pressure vessels.
The Chair would like to thank the Central Innovation Program for SMEs (ZIM) of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection for funding the new project.
