The LCC finished the public project rapidskelett, in which a new method was developed for the virtual mechanical characterization and structural optimization of additvely manufactured smart cellular materials. Through structurally tailored micro unit cells, periodic lattices provide a lightweight supporting or infill structure with high stiffness and energy absorption capabilities. This multiscale design workflow is based on micromechanical elastoplastic homogenization and topology optimization of 3D-printable lattice unit cells. Application targets are use case-specific 3D-printed supporting or core structures of composite components. The chair thankfully acknowledges the funding provided by the Bavarian Ministroy of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy (Funding code: NW-1812-0006). The developed method including simple application cases has been published in https://doi.org/10.1002/adem.202201385.
