Aerospace Materials Science and Processing (1 & 2), Compulsory subject in the Bachelor's program in Aerospace Engineering
The aim of the lecture is to convey the basic laws and mechanisms of materials science and processing technology. The focus is on linking basic knowledge of materials science with engineering application and consideration in the specific field of aerospace applications. Mechanical properties of materials are explained and substantiated using simplified models at atomic level. The main material classes of metals, light metals, ceramics and plastics are introduced. The second part of the lecture deals with the processing of materials and addresses effects due to thermal and chemical processes. Aspects of material selection are introduced. The module is held and examined in English.
