Rotorcraft Engineering - Systems & Components

Contents: This course provides an introduction to systems engineering principles and their application to helicopter design and development. Students will gain foundational knowledge of the helicopter's main components, including the main rotor, drivetrain, fuel system, flight controls, and electrical systems.
Through a combination of lectures, and hands-on exercises, students will learn to evaluate different design approaches, plan the development of key helicopter systems, and understand the interaction between these systems. A central component of the course involves analyzing system functions, identifying necessary verification and validation tests, and applying engineering principles to solve practical design challenges.
By the end of the course, students will be equipped with the skills to assess helicopter system designs, define testing procedures, and contribute to the development of rotorcraft systems.
Prerequisites: Recommended but not required: Rotorcraft Engineering - Preliminary Design
