ITBE Fusion Lab
The project involved the task of re-designing the Donnersberger Bridge in the Munich city center. Five groups of students worked on a respective design and a software task.
Design task
For the design task, students are asked to investigate the importance of the Donnersberger Bridge for all transportation means, develop possible replacement bridge designs, and present a proposal on how to prevent traffic collapse during the renovation/ replacement using digital tools and methods. Furthermore, geo-data in the form of point clouds, aerial images, lane-level accuracy data on roads (Munich Lane Model) and digital elevation models were provided. The design task involved the adaption of 2D GIS data to 3D, to convert this model to CityGML and to then use this data as a foundation for a re-design of the bridge. The re-desgined bridge was provided as IFC models.
Software task
The software task then involved the development of a web-based system that enables the public participation in the design process. It is supposed to consist of a web frontend providing both 3D and 2D views of the bridge and its surroundings and enabling the participants to leave comments. The server side must accordingly provide a database with the different design models and hold the comments. Third-party sources providing 3D city models (CityGML) and for example, traffic data, are supposed to be integrated via web technologies. The bridge design will be performed in a BIM modelling application with IFC export functionalities. Hence, support for importing and displaying IFC by the platform is required. In addition, the integration of a traffic simulator is beneficial. A Cesium-based web visualization addtionally allows easy access to multiple CityGML and IFC models visualized with one common web viewer
