The network of the Runder Tisch GIS e.V. has always stood for knowledge transfer between industry, administration, and science. Traditionally, the Chair of Geoinformatics represents the chairman of the association. Since its foundation in July 2000, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthäus Schilcher was the chairman of the Runder Tisch GIS e.V. In May 2014 the members of the association elected Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Thomas H. Kolbe chairman. The office of the association is situated at the Chair of Geoinformatics.
With more than 200 members, the Runder Tisch GIS e.V. is one of the biggest voluntarily organised networks focusing on geoinformation in Germany. The keyword "knowledge transfer" describes best the common denominator of all activities of the association. It is interpreted comprehensively by the Runder Tisch GIS e.V.: From science to industry and administration; from industry to administration, from industry to industry, from administration to administration, between scientific institutions and last but not least towards the general public as well as important decision-makers.
The main emphasis of the association’s work is on training and further education, promotion of young talents, and projects. The contents are provided by the competence pools, where member can get involved, pick up and promote current topics.
