This was the Great Geodetic Excursion from 7 to 10 June 2022
The four-day Great Geodetic Excursion is organized every two years, alternately by one of the chairs of the study program "Geodesy and Geoinformation". It gives practical impressions of different fields of work in geodesy. This time our chair was responsible for the organization.
We were on an exciting trip through Saxony and Brandenburg. A total of 36 German and international students participated in the excursion.
We looked at the huge areas of opencast lignite mining in Lusatia and also dealt with the consequences of opencast mining - expropriations, resettlements, reuse, renaturation. We visited various institutions such as research institutes, universities, companies and construction sites. In Freiberg, we learned about mine surveying and the great researchers who worked there over the centuries. In Görlitz and Bautzen, we admired the historic old towns and deal with the challenges of structural change. In Dresden, we dealt with current urban development. As a crowning finale, we drove into the 110 meter deep former tin mine in Ehrenfriedersdorf.
Many thanks to the interested students and the great speakers!
