His dissertation aimed to investigate to what extent the uptake of Blockchain - a new type of data storage and distribution tool - can make land administration in Ghana – characterized by a dual system of statutory and customary land - more effective, efficient, and transparent. The dissertation addresses a crucial challenge as the conventional knowledge on land administration supportive technology has been rather static, while the problems with land administration in general and the specific nature of land tenure in Ghana have been problematic, untransparent, and ineffective. Investigating how much, in which manner, and under which conditions blockchain could improve this status quo is relevant and opportune. The cumulative dissertation draws on several internationally peer-reviewed articles and book chapters (available via https://www.asg.ed.tum.de/en/bole/dokumentation/veroeffentlichungen/ ).
