His dissertation journey started with what is now one of the most cited articles in this field: is The positive impacts of farm land fragmentation in Rwanda. The dissertation aimed to investigate the spatial occurrence, types, causes and effects, and possible solutions or alternatives of farmland fragmentations in the context of enhancing land tenure security and food security. While using the context of how and where farmland fragmentation occurs and is addressed in Rwanda, it draws on established, frequently documented, and referenced concepts of parcel and farmland fragmentation from other studies and country contexts. The cumulative dissertation drew on several internationally peer-reviewed articles and book chapters (available via https://www.asg.ed.tum.de/en/bole/dokumentation/veroeffentlichungen/ ).
